Speedie Readies: The Dual Route to Word Mapping Mastery®

Introduce Word Mapping with the Speech Sound Play Plan
The Ten-Day Speech Sound Play Plan is the ideal starting point for children starting reception who need a quick, engaging introduction to speech sounds and early word mapping as a whole class before starting their phonics programme. It builds confident speech sound processing, supports accurate segmentation, and prepares children to bond speech sounds, spelling, and meaning. This short, structured plan gives every child the foundations they need to begin learning phonics in school, and storing words in the orthographic lexicon.
Or use this on a 1:1 without the time constraint eg at home or within early years provision. Once children have completed the Speech Sound Play plan they are naturally ready to begin the next stage: Speedie Readies
Move into Speedie Readies: The Dual Route to Word Mapping Mastery®
PATH 1
• The Core Code: Connects speech sound processing to print through about 100 commonly used graphemes and more than 100 mapped high-frequency words using the Monster Spelling Piano app. This provides the essential foundation that allows learners to begin self-teaching.
Most children who struggle haven’t started to bond speech sounds, spelling, and meaning efficiently enough to store words in the orthographic lexicon through self-teaching. They’re still trying to decode almost every word grapheme by grapheme, and this is mentally exhausting. A focus on the Core Code at their own pace makes all the difference!
PATH 2
• The Whole Code: Bi-directional word mapping within meaningful context that supports self-teaching and facilitates earlier orthographic mapping. Start this when they are confident with the Green and Purple Code Levels in Path 1.
Most children who struggle aren’t exposed to the whole code within meaningful context because teachers are focused on the Core Code, for example through a phonics programme designed for whole class teaching of a pre-determined average child .
The bi-directional word mapping technology shows the code they aren’t exposed to in Path 1,and may not be acquiring through self-teaching. The series of 100 One, Two, Three and Away! books, with the MyWordz® with MySpeekie® technology, moves them from quick and easy word recognition to reading with fluency and comprehension.
